Winter Storm Preparations

The weight of snow on flat roofs can be substantial and some buildings have collapsed from the weight. In addition, water can seep in if the gutters are jammed with ice. But remember safety is the first consideration.

If you are concerned about this but can not get the snow and ice off the roof safely, consider what precautions you can take to protect the contents of the building.

Can you use plastic to protect books and artifacts from drips?

If you have a room that is still safe to enter, but is a potential threat, can you move the contents to a space that is safer?

If the storm comes as rain, can you move things off the floor or remove them from areas at risk of flooding?
